Commecial energy use makes up approximately 18% of total energy use in the US.  Not surprisingly, most of this energy comes from electricity.  Though computers have reduced the amount of paper waste in offices, they have also upped our electricity use.  Luckily there are some simple measures your workplace can take to lower its electric bill (and who can argue with saving money on utilities?).

Did you know that we could save eight billion gallons of gas if every commuter car carried just one more person?  Encouraging workers to drive less is one of the most important and effective steps a company can take to becoming sustainable (not to mention a great way for employees to save money on gas).  A simple first step: set up an online carpool board.

More tips:
*Make bike racks available.  When people see them being used regularly, they may be inspired to use them as well.

Did you know that over half the materials thrown away into the King County landfill could have been recycled?  Make recycling as easy and convenient as possible.  Put recycling bins next to every desk and leave the garbage can in one central area.  Not only will people be more likely to recycle (now that they don’t have to make a special trip for it), you can also more easily observe what is being wasted.  Knowing what’s in your company’s trash is the first step to more effective recycling.
